Radiation Therapy Offers a New Option for Arthritis and Tendonitis in Panama City
January 13, 2026
Florida Cancer Affiliates is expanding the use of radiation therapy to help patients in the Panama City area manage chronic joint pain caused by arthritis or tendonitis.
In a recent Medical Monday story on News Channel 7, Dr. Brian Center, radiation oncologist at Florida Cancer Affiliates, shared how low-dose radiation therapy is being used to help reduce inflammation and relieve pain associated with arthritis and tendonitis. This treatment has been safely used in Europe for decades and is now helping patients in the U.S.
Unlike radiation used to treat cancer, this therapy uses very small doses aimed at calming inflammation in sore joints or tendons. According to Dr. Center, many patients experience meaningful pain relief that can last anywhere from six months to two years after just five treatment sessions.
Low-dose radiation therapy may be helpful for patients who have not found relief from medications or who are not candidates for joint replacement surgery. The treatment is covered by Medicare and most major insurance plans.
